Did you hear about this one? Top 5 apps for a perfect road trip

The holidays come in all colors! There are those who choose to go to rest or to get inspired by nature, others prefer the beach to mitigate the heat and others love the adventures. However, for some of us, taking a road trip reminds us of cult movies like Thelma & Louise: changing landscapes, freedom and wind blowing our hair. It means exploring new corners with the rhythm of country music, having the patience to survive to traffic jams and enjoying the freedom to go wherever we want. Are you excited this year to discover the magic of road trips? Well, here are some apps that will make your planning a bit easier.

1. Plan your group route

It is always wise to be on the same wave as your friends or family when you are going to spend so many hours together in a car. Agreeing on how many stops approximately you will make on the road, what kind of places you can visit around or what activities you will enjoy is crucial to ensure you have good vibes throughout the trip.

To plan it, we recommend you Road Trippers, an interactive app both for desktop and for iOS, where you can create a route anywhere in the world and edit it as you add interesting tourist spots recommended by the app, restaurants, stops or hotels. Send the link to your contacts and you can edit the route and make it a little more real, imagining it.

2. Where to refuel?

On a road trip, where to stop on the way is almost as important as choosing the spots to visit on your destiny. Consider that you are travelling for hours and when you stop to have a break you don´t want to find a place without restaurant or with a dirty toilet. It is better if you don´t risk your time off driving and choose wisely in which fuel station you will stop and what you will find there.

Among all the apps to choose your stop over our route, we love Along the Way, because besides informing you about gas prices, it tells you about the quality of the food available there, the bathroom and some other useful facilities such as if it has an ATM. The best thing is that users can comment and rate the rest stations to orient you better in your moments of relaxation.

3. Drive in group?

If you travel in a group divided into several cars and want all of you to be located, try our free app Wave Application, an app that allows you to share your location with them with for a few minutes or a few hours, so that both of you can locate each other in real time without having to call or look at the cell phone.

It has a meeting point feature that comes in handy when you all want to stop in the same place, you just need to select it on the map, and everyone can get directions to get there. While you are driving, your buddies can chat with each other on the group with the super fast chat.

Safety comes first and Wave is also a way of letting your family know where you are going, or if you are okay, bragging with other friends, or letting your tour guide know that you are in a jam. Wave privacy allows you to stop the location sharing whenever you want and only use it when it is useful to you.

4. Let the miles fly away

Stuck in a traffic jam or just driving along a route will be boring from time to time. If your conversation drops, you can always turn on the radio even in the most inhospitable places in the world, through the app Simple Radio, available for iOS and Android. Simple Radio connects you with more than 40 thousand radio stations all over the world. Podcast, sports and any sort of music will be loading to make your trip easier and fulfil everyone’s tastes.

5. Where to stay?

A road trip is full of unforeseen and that is precisely the magic of travelling the roads, you stop when you want and continue when you have rested. This attitude is not very compatible with the reservation of hotels or apartments in advance, since you do not know if you will stop in one city or another.

Other expert travellers have already thought of this and have created Rommer Travel, one of the largest communities of travellers reselling their hotel stays. If someone has to cancel a reservation, they sell it before at a low price and let others reserve it at the last minute. Everyone wins! Similar to this one, that has a desktop version, you have Hotel Tonight, an app that only offers last minute rooms around the globe.

Trip with friends- Tips to get the most out of it!

Trips with friends are a great way to live new adventures, gather old buddies to get some quality time or to plan a well-deserved trip to find moments of happiness. But let’s face it, there is a downside: travelling in a group can get quite complicated! We discovered some ideas and tips for preparing a trip with your group of friends easily.

Before the trip

Plan Chat app for travel with friends
Plan Chat

Hipmunk, HopperLiligo are some price comparators of flights, trains and buses to choose which destination has better prices and schedules. This is a practical way to start planning your holidays, as you all probably don’t  live in the same city.

Once you have some ideas, select a date to vote and open Plan Chat, an useful app to vote between members, make polls and plan every single details of your trip. It has the possibility to create different groups to discuss each topic separately and to add pictures or text information to each one.

On the go

Wave App for meeting friends
Wave Application

The best is yet to come but the illusion is so exciting that we start to overwhelm us for everything, the dates, the clothes and the activities to do everyday. The most important thing is to realise that, although it is a group trip, you can split for a while to do different things. Let’s say you are in a very historic city and you would love to visit the ruins, while others need some rest after lunch or just getting lost around the city.

With the realtime location of Wave Application, you can be connected with your friends as you make plans for your own. It is an ideal way to meet in crowded or new places. With this app you can create a group between friends for some hours and see each other’s location on a map, in real time. Also, it has a chat so you can comment on what you see.

While travelling it is common that you will need some cash to pay your friends, or the other way around: to get paid and then carry on a vast and heavy amount of small coins. Now it is easier than ever to pay online and we love how Circle Pay app gets everything ready, as you can select a contact and make a transfer quickly, linking your debit card. It is the easiest way to solve all money issues in a minute. Another choice you can use for payments is Venmo, that is one of the quickest to make the transfers.

Another essential sort of app to travel with friends is a cloud storage. Cloud, Drive or Dropbox are among the most popular, and all serve you to upload automatically your pictures from your smartphone on a shared folder with your friends.

Back at home

      1. Write down the best picks

Being able to go back to the good times spent with friends is priceless. So why not to write it down? This mental exercise is an amazing way to avoid forgetting life memories and experience them afterwards having different points of view. If you want to write it with your smartphone in your empty moments, you can download Trip Journal, an app to share moments on text, pictures and videos of every single detail of your trip.

      2. Filter the best photos

The most experienced travellers do not upload dozens of pictures of each day of travel and neither should you, if you do not want your audience to stop following you. Learn to filter and choose a few images from each day.

      3. Give some feedback

To end, give some feedback and comment on the restaurants and hotels you’ve visited. It seems boring, but you will be helping all people who, like you, have looked at valuations on the internet before traveling. And also help someone who has made your vacation a bit more enjoyable.

You are ready to plan your next adventure. Tell us how your friends trip was and send us your pictures to our Instagram.

Would you dare to try these? 👉 5 extreme holiday adventures with friends

The holiday season is all about spending time with your loved ones and enjoying the time off. However, for some of you, summer is synonymous to adrenaline. If you are deciding between going climbing, diving or skydiving, follow this mini guide for the tips for the most extreme places in the world to do outdoor activities. You will find in the end some tips to keep you safe 😉

Diving between sharks, rays and morays

CC

There are some outstanding places for diving to experience the most dangerous animals in the world. Among the most wonderful, we recommend the Galapagos Islands, in Ecuador, an ode to the purest nature. You can dive between penguins, sharks, marine iguanas, huge turtles, rays and, of course, giant tortoises. To see the Tiger sharks, Tiger Island in the Bahamas is an unsurpassable destination for nature photographers and adventurers. More extreme still, is to dive in a cage in Gansbaai, South Africa. Sharks reach several meters and it is very dangerous to swim next to them. If you can handle the experience, it is something you will never forget.

Trekking a volcano

CC

Other intense activity is mountain trekking, but if it occurs in a volcano that also casts coloured fumes and toxic substances, then it becomes an unforgettable experience. You will need a special equipment, a guide, a gas mask and lots of energy, and it is advisable to conquer the summit before the sun goes down. Some of the most famous scenarios are Agua Volcano in Guatemala and Ijen volcano in Java, Indonesia. The latter is characterized by ejecting blue lava that can be seen when the sky is clear.

Climbing on a glacier

CC

In southern Argentina you can find some amazing places, but one of them is without a doubt the Pertio Glacier, a glacier full of cavities, paths and vertical hollows of hundreds of meters high. It is an unequaled adventure, not suitable for claustrophobic, since in many occasions you get to climb in very narrow cavities and with little illumination. It is an activity that requires patience, since it takes several hours and you need to wait for your mates. Until your friend does not go up you can not go up, so be prepared to wait hanging, while watching incredible views.

Whitewater rafting

Pokhara Rafting
CC

If you want to test yourself and fight the wind, the water and the gravity, whitewater rafting is an opportunity to prove your strength, strategy and coordination. Some of the more extreme areas are in the Copper Canyon in Mexico. It is a system of 6 guns of about 600 km of length, with several streams of diverse rivers. An experience only for veterans. Another unique spot are placed in Pokhara, Nepal, in Colorado, United States, and in White Nile, Uganda.

Skydiving in incredible places

CC

If you have already thrown yourself into a height between 14 thousand feet and 20 thousand feet, then you can afford the luxury of looking around and appreciating the landscape. Among the places that are known as the most beautiful in the world to do skydiving, you can find Queenstown, in New Zealand, Cairns in Australia or Livingstone in Zambia, where you will see in your fall the Victory falls.

Tips for your extreme trip

Security is very important when you go on an extreme trip so we recommend 3 tips to be safe while doing extreme outdoor sports:

1. Look at the weather forecast

Even if you go with an instructor that will tell you whether or not you can do the activity, a sudden rain or a little more wind can turn your already risky experience into a real danger. A nice app for this is AccuWeather, which also gives you information in specific places like rivers, canals, waterfalls or volcanoes. If you need something more specific, Windguru gives you a complete plan of wind forecast, tides, maximum and minimum temperatures and everything you need to know to do water sports.

2. Do not be all alone

Share your location in real time with your closest friends, with the instructor, the guide or who is doing the same activity as you, so you both know at all times how to find and help you. Wave Application is our free app where you can privately share your location with whoever needs it, from 15 minutes to 8 hours, our most used option in extreme sports.

If you really are in trouble, be sure to have downloaded iSurvive, an app that in just three taps will be sending an SMS with your location to your contacts, and it will be updating it every few seconds. It also connects you immediately with the emergency services. Another possibility is RapidSOS, developed by MIT. Once you tap the screen, It will call the closest emergency services, no matter where you are in the world.

3. Protect your skin

Sun, ice or toxic gases can be very harmful to your skin and you will have serious problems when you return. It is best that you always keep your skin moisturised and protected from the sun, as well as being immunised against mosquitoes and other insects. Just in case you forget, you can use QSun, an app that measures the temperature, the clothes you wear, your skin color and tells you how much sun protection you need.

You already have the whole pack, enjoy your trip and please send a pic to our Instagram 😉

5 tips to make the most out of a music festival – special edition for the penny pinchers ;)

We all either love or hate music festivals. Even for us who love them, they can become a little bit too pricey so it’s always good to come up with some tricks to save money. Planning the festivals in advance and carrying the right apps is always a good idea. Here we go:

Equip yourself with a few handful apps

Calling to find others is almost impossible because of the noise, the crowd and the impossibility to understand where they are when finally they pick up the phone. To help you gather your friends in the chaos, you can download for free Wave Application beforehand, open a wave before the show starts and you’ll always have each other located.

To find other useful places such as the toilet, the food area, your tend or any other important location you want to reach, you can download Festival Buddy, a location app where you can mark all the places around on the app and get directions to any of them at any time.

These apps make you enjoy more the festival as you can focus on the fun and the music. If your festival has its own app, it would be also a very good idea to have it on your phone and get informed about delays, change of music scenarios, weather conditions or any other important matter.

Plan your music festival in advance

Being an early bird and checking out the dates to be among the first ones when tickets are on sale will allow you to save a lot of money. At the same time it will display you the best choices for the accommodation, as the starting prices are usually very cheap. A few weeks after you would only find pricey tickets such as VIP. If you opt for a famous music festival this summer, planning in advance could be the only way to get tickets before they are sold out.

Choose wisely, pay attention to details

How far away do you need to travel? Which possibilities of transport do you have? Is the tent included on the ticket? All those questions are as important as the line-up to decide which music festival would be the perfect one for you. If you add a flight ticket to your budget, plus the transport from the airport to the festival, then your trip starts to sum up generously ;).

There are tons of festivals around the world with different line-ups and facilities, so if you read between the lines, you might discover cheaper festivals that are just as great.

Share costs

Diving into blogs, forums and social network’s pages helps you to discover that you are not alone. You can find festival buddies to split costs to get to the festival by car or train, to start with. Food and alcohol are also very expensive things to consume daily on festivals and if you do some grocery first within a big group you can opt for buying big packages of goods with discounts and plan to cook some meals together. Besides, you would have a lot of fun and would be the envy of the customers on the waiting line at the food vendors.

You can also opt for car sharing on Blablacar website, the largest carpooling portal in the world that connects drivers with travellers to go anywhere and share the costs of the trip. Usually this possibility is cheaper than using public transport and it is a good chance to meet new interesting people.

Choose your clothing from your wardrobe

Festivals have a casual dress code that actually makes super easy to be trendy at the same time as wearing your old summery clothes. An old T-shirt from a previous festival could set you as a veteran among your friends and would look very fashionable. The most important thing is to choose carefully your shoes! We all know why 😉

You are all set! Do you have any other useful tip to plan your festival trips? Share it with us! 😉

Work – Life Balance

Leaving the work on time or respecting traditional working hours is not very common in a startup. The work swing can be abysmal from week to week and you need to spend more or less hours depending on each project.

Working from home and being flexible with schedules is just another way to work. At Wave we are seeing that is possible to balance a very demanding work with a satisfying personal life. This is how we roll at Wave:

Work flexible, but respect other lifestyles

Generally all the teams coordinate more or less their working hours with their department. Some have children and prefer to work early in the morning and some are very awake late at night, however, we all work simultaneously during the day.

We don’t call, we don’t send mails, we don’t text: we Slack. It is an interactive application in which you can create various groups of chat with your workmates. In that way each conversation is very well classified, and earlier comments can easily be found. It also enables you to share documents and make video calls between members of the office, so we always have the information we need easily. Slack is one of the fastest growing start ups but there are other similar apps in the market, too.

Teams communicate between them

We think that the key to a successful team is to communicate effectively. In a startup it is always very enriching to connect with other departments, for example our developers know how the brand is marketed and the marketing team knows the new features that the product department is developing. In this way every team member can have an opinion and most of all learn about a specific subject no matter if it’s not his/her core business.

Call at any time you need

Quick calls,  videos and chats are always on hand when working from home. It is important to communicate with the colleagues in the fastest possible way even if the teams are not physically in the same place. We are always connected so we can post an idea at night and let others read it in the morning.

Weekly meetings points in the office

The office is not just a meeting point to discuss about processes and tasks, it is also a space where the team can have a glimpse of what others are doing and get involved in the core of the company. It is a time to have fun, relax and get to know each other, which is extremely important for remote workers as they could feel they are part of something great.

For us it is a weekly reference in which we can meet with our business partners, talk with the colleagues and above all to see what other departments are up to. Most of us meet once a week in the office, and the laughs can be heard a long before entering the building.

Is not for everyone

Working from home is quite a challenge, though. It is a decentralised model in which each worker establishes their schedules and tasks autonomously and shares with others their results and concerns. It’s not for everyone, it takes an extremely proactive person to be able to work this way. Nobody is evaluated by the hours they spend in front of the screen but by the results.

Friends jumping to the sea

Location apps are the hottest hot! Be an early bird ;)

Do you have a gadget to find where your car is? Or a tool to find your friends when you are lost in the streets? What today seems easy, was just a dream a few years ago. We don´t even realise how location apps have changed our lives. Finding cars, finding friends, arriving on time, checking out the news, the weather, the new restaurants… Look at your installed apps: Wave Application, Park My Car, Cabify or Google Maps. We have shortlisted the most common situations in which you use location to make your life easier:

Find your friends – no more “where are you’s”

Wave Application Let's Meet app loc

When you arrive late (we all do, sometimes 😉 ) and your friends are already gone it is difficult to meet them if they are heading somewhere and all you’ve got is a bunch of missed calls and unanswered messages. Here at Wave we found out the solution. Open a group on Wave Let’s Meet app with your friends and see where they are going or set a meeting point. Wave is 100% private so you all need to accept before you can start see each other on a live map. What’s new in the 3.0 is the Temporary Sharing – feature: now you can wave with the non-Wavers! Send your live location during 15 min to any of your contacts who don’t have Wave installed.

Find the car

Looking for your car trying to look like you’re just walking around? Right, this happened to most of us. The app that we liked most to solve this problem is My Car Locator, since it allows you to register accurately using the location your car and you can consult it whenever needed, as well as get directions to get to the car.

Park the car

w

Not only where you parked but where to park? The odyssey of everyone living in a big city. If it takes you 20 minutes to get to a place, you know you will at least have to add 10 more to find a parking spot. And that being lucky, right? Applications like Wazypark identify public garages in cities, airports or stadiums where you can see if there are places available and reserve them in advance. To park in the street, it allows you to see where there are spots left, thanks to comments from users who leave their place free at any given time.

Find your favorite restaurant or bar

Whether you need a vegan restaurant, a deluxe experience or just standard food, you only have to go to one of the world’s largest restaurant portals, Yelp, where you can find, thanks to your location, the most suitable one to your preferences. We love the amount of filters you have to sort out for prices, type of food, location and user ratings.

Find your date

We become more practical every day, and to find new friends in a city or to have an appointment we do not want to have to travel very far. Applications such as Tinder, Happn for dating and finding a romance are ideal tools that use our phone location as the first filter when it comes to finding our ideal partner for weekends or romantic dates.

What star do you have in front of you?

Astronomers or the more romantic ones also have a perfect application that identifies their location. Sky Map, from Google, allows you to observe the sky through the camera of your mobile device to know with which constellation you are facing. The compass and gps are the essential tools for this application.

GPS

There are so many and they are so good that we have tried a few, from classic Google Maps to some paid as Navigon. We like all of them, although we have fell in love with Here, a young promise that has delighted us with the indications of the type “follow the natural route of the road” that we believe are very intuitive and differ from the usual robotic language of all GPS we have.
