The beauty of holding the balance on the board, follow the wave ( 😉 ) and control your body, smell the salty sea and observe the surroundings are some of the reasons surf is so enjoyable. There are many valid destinations around the world to surf, depending on the weather conditions, the season, the number of surfers who will be queuing to hunt a wave and the landscape.

If you are enjoying the waves, it is most likely that your friends are on a nearby beach or a few waves away. It’s always quite difficult to find friends on the beaches full of people and umbrellas. The coolest way to avoid getting lost is to open Wave Application. Thanks to this free app you can create a group with your friends and share your live locations on a private map for a limited period of time.

Once you are all set, take a look at the list of the best surfing destinations in the world. They are the result of the comments of the most experts, the beauty of the landscape and the regularity of the good waves. Check them out and get inspired:

AUSTRALIA

Palm Beach surf destination

We start in Australia, a paradise for new wave lovers, since in practically every area there are beaches with wind and nice swell conditions. If you are a beginner, Palm Beach is the best option to start thanks to its several schools for beginners.

If you’ve spent a few years on the board and need a little more action, Bilgola Beach can be your favorite destination. Located in the northern part of the country, it is a long beach that blows a gentle southeast wind and allows a prolonged swell with waves of 1 meter high or more.

Just for adventurers, Superbank Beach is famous all over the world for its vast wild waves and solid walls where surfers crowd to prove their bravery. This beach is located on the Golden Coast, a spectacularly good area for surfers by waves and swell and for the length of its beaches.

UNITES STATES

Pipeline famous surf wave

Nantucket in Massachusetts is where beginners can find their paradise, thank to its gentle waves and its location, as it is protected from the south wind. You will find several spots along the coast to practice.

Hawaii is THE destination for the US surfers, because it offers good conditions and beautiful scenarios. The mother of all waves is in Pipeline and you can find a strong west swell following a strong north swell. Three large reefs crown this beach and cause waves of up to 6 meters. In addition, the tubes that are formed are fun and a challenge reserved only for the best.

EUROPE

To start off with your footing in the surf world, San Sebastian in the Bay of Biscay, can be the best combination of gastronomic holidays with soft beaches and a vibrant Spanish atmosphere. Many surf schools are grouped along the coastline that offers consistent waves but also has very nice protected caves. It is quite windy though.

Intermediate swells with strong wind are the characteristics that make Gwithian Beach in Cornwall, the suitable destination for those intermediate surfers who want a bit of challenge without risking their board.

The Atlantic is not an easy battlefield, and in northern Europe it can be extremely cold. If this does not discourage you, try to go to the beautiful emerald island, Ireland. One of the most consistent and best quality reef jumps in Ireland is The Peak, a benchmark for the more experienced in Bundoran Beach. It has a long swell from the southeast and forms barriers with high and wild side walls.

ASIA

In Asia the coasts of Indonesia are famous and in the internet forums the options are very varied. You have probably heard about Bali with fear and admiration, but among its many beaches it does have spots for beginners with surf schools around. The best known is Kuta beach, a long sandy beach that sends gentle waves with a slight swell. Fun and very cool to practice balance.

For experts on riding waves, it’s recommended to go near Sumatra, to the islands Mentawai. The advantage of this place is that you can go with few friends to surf without waiting queues, as there are so many islands and beaches with good conditions that the surfers are very spread out. It has strong winds and swell, not recommended for beginners.

AFRICA

South Africa is home to the best surf spots in the continent, as hosts many schools for beginners. One of the most beautiful beaches and with a consistent but gentle wave is Unzumbe.

Also in this country, there is one of the most recognized destinations in the world: J Bay or Jeffrey’s bay. Nowhere have we seen the precise water formations, such as supertubes, vertical walls or albatrosses. It has a very definite and constant swell and the waves can reach several meters height. The dominant winds are then offshore from the west to the southwest. If you feel like going to visit another country, Senegal offers wild conditions and a stunning landscape, especially in Les Almadies, that has reef breaks and consistent swell.
