Groups: the location – sharing feature made real

Sharing the location is a trend and people are more and more willing to share their location privately with their friends whenever they are meeting in crowded places. Recently, the biggest social networks have launched timid features of location, but have forgotten a very important issue: people usually go out in groups!

Wave application was born in 2013 to precisely offer something that nobody had seen before: the option to open groups with friends to share their location and set a meeting point. It can be used in any city in the world, concerts or festivals. Sharing the location in a group is one more way to be connected with whoever you want and only when you want. So far, we have facilitated more than 260 millions of sessions and 60 millions of waves between friends, family members or work colleagues and we have not stopped growing to reach almost 8 millions of users.

The feature

Wave Application

To see how group location works, you can go to the menu and select “create a group”, then add directly all members you want and select the period of time for the wave. Our most common wave lasts 15 minutes, however you can set up one for 30 minutes, one hour, 2 hours and so on, up to 8 hours. The latest one is very useful for those travelling, doing sports outdoors or driving home safely without getting disturbed by using the smartphone.

Once the group is created a request will be sent automatically to each contact and you are all set up! When the requests are accepted a map will be displayed with each contact so you can have a better insight of where are specifically each one and they can see where are you too. That way nobody gets lost and annoyed of waiting. All of you can gather directly no matter in which city you are and how well (or badly 😉 )  you know the streets.

When the time selected expires nobody will be able to share their location anymore, unless they open a new one. Privacy is our core value as we believe location is something personal that should be shared only when needed and not at all times. As users we know that we should be the ones to control tech to make our life easier and avoid being controlled by tech and third parties.

Why groups

Groups are created to fulfil daily situations in which people meet up with friends or more people, change the place to stay, meet in crowded places or simply don´t know the city and how to get there.

Here at Wave we firmly believe that our 60 million of Waves created by our almost 8 millions of users are a sign that we are revolutionising the way people interact by displaying our native technology in real time. This tech is built specifically to provide the best design and solution for people’s lives and with the passion of doing it better and more precise than any other location service.

Our contribution, Wave application, is a precise and real-time geolocation system, which allows you to share your location with your friends when in crowded places, outdoors doing sports or for example picking up your better half. Although there are more apps in the market that share the same insight with us, there is not a single one that shares the same approach. Privacy, bidirectionality, realtime, limited duration and top-notch UX and design mean everything to us. Try it for free on iOS and Android.

Uriji Jami

Creating the ideal environment to share a dream or a project with your friends is a delicate matter, although they are the only people you would tell your crazy dream of singing in public, make Youtube videos or open your own brand. Choosing the moment to share something as personal and as special as a dream can be an odyssey in such a fast and connected world. That is why we are amused by Uriji Jami app, which allows you to share with your friends comments that are dreams or projects that you want to undertake.

Through the application you can stay to late to advise and receive feedback on your projects, speak freely of them and also help your friends. Did you know that a friend wants to open a brand? Or did you notice that a friend wants to go and see the stars in some Nordic country? something that you also wanted since you started that course of photography. Check out privately the most personal side of your mates and share your own stories. You can use it on desktop version or download it for free for iOS.

Cluster

C

Have you ever come across an invitation on Facebook from a relative or even from your mother? In those situations we feel like Facebook is more public than private and there are things we would not like to share with our family. Unfortunately, sometimes we want the opposite and we would love to share some unique and personal information with close friends or family and not with our 500 friends on every social network. If you still feel that there are times when the mainstream social networks are not the best way to connect with them, test Cluster.

We love how this app mimics the Facebook design with a timeline of photographs, status updates and comments that allow us to share the best and most intimate of our free time with only those who really care. To start, create a group with your family, another with your friends from school and another with those at work and share with them the most personal. Available and free for iOS and Android.

Capsule Cam

One of our favorite applications to share memories is Capsule Cam, although it works like any other online storage that you can open in iCloud or Google Drive or Dropbox, to name a few, this application gives you the added value of simplicity and having everything on the same place. Our parents, grandparents, siblings or friends can upload photos of the wedding or the latest event, comment on them, save them and even print them from the application. In this way we are all able to collect all the possible pics of a memorable event. It is free for Android.

At Wave Application we believe that going outside and making memories is one of the best ways to spend our free time. To do that, technology comes in handy to take the most of any of our trips so we have shortlisted and tested the best 5 apps in the market to do outdoor sports with friends or alone and enjoy a wonderful day in nature.

View Ranger

viewranger1

Is there anything better when doing outdoor sports than sharing the beautiful views of the incredible surroundings with your friends? View Ranger app thinks that knowing the environment can improve our experience and brings us the augmented reality to our excursions. With its feature Skyline, we can focus with the smartphone camera lakes, mountains, trails and routes and the app lets us know in real time the name of each peak or lake and will locate us exactly in the geography of the place. In this way those of us who are not experts of the place can conquer the best spots and learn the best routes to reach them.

In addition to the augmented reality, the maps and geolocation of this app use official sources and channels of rescue stations. Among its options, you can see information on ski slopes, hiking and road routes in natural environments. It is free on Android and iOS.

Wisuki

Aloha surfers! If you are a surf adventurer and love kitesurfing, sailing, surfing or windsurfing, our personal recommendation is Wisuki. It is an app that combines the typical data sources of each beach or tourist area to surf and presents them in a list, so we can quickly decide where to go with our board each morning. The app is designed by experts and has all the desirable features, plus a graphic map in which we can take a quick look at the conditions of a specific beach.

Wisuki has information about wind, tide, weather, water temperature, twilight time and wind direction, all updated hourly. What we also love is that it adds some interesting facts that can help us decide where to go, depending on how beautiful is the beach, how entertaining or how accessible it is. It is definitely worth for practicing water sports. It is free on Android and iOS.

Strava

strava

We believe that playing sports is a rewarding experience both before and after going out, so that is why measuring your performance is a great way to feel proud and want to repeat the next weekend. Strava is one of the best apps to measure your performance in outdoor sports, the miles you have completed, the intensity, your heart rate (if you have a wearable to measure it) the altitude and all factors you need to know to be satisfied with your route.

Once you have used the application several times, the algorithm of Strava makes a specific plan for you, according to your tastes and your possibilities, so that you take a personal trainer on your smartphone. It is a very useful part for those who enjoy the self-improvement and are encouraged to try more and more hiking routes or bike more intense.

In addition, if you have a competitive side or like to learn from other users, the application has a social network in which you can share your opinions on different hiking or bike routes, share tips, pictures or just presume of your personal marks. It is free on iOS and Android.

FitStar

In the field of virtual personal trainers, we like to highlight FitStar, because it combines exercises at home with outdoor activities in which you can enjoy nature, exercise and doing sport in a group. This application displays several training programs for lessons that you can complete to level up, with videos, comments and suggestions to become a true outdoor athlete with confidence and without fear of not being able to continue with the route.

What is characteristic of this tool is that you can evaluate each exercise based on its intensity and whether it has been interesting to you. Thus, the application will learn from your tastes and can adjust your exercises to you. It has a free version on Android and a Premium one with more features.

SXSW 2017: Location is the new tech trend

The annual conference that brings together startups and consumers in Austin, Texas until the 19th of March has introduced us new businesses that could rocket to the moon soon. Among the stars of this edition of SXSW 2017, we could highlight Seek and Zippyspot.

Seek has a geolocation system combined with augmented reality, in a similar way to Pokemon Go, to approach the brands that want to interact with their users when they are in a certain location. This means that stores can place an icon or an animation on a determined street to provide interaction between brands and their users. On the other hand, Zippyspot, is a location app that connects restaurants, bars and stores with customers nearby to attract them with coupons and discounts. In other words smartphone replaces the PR person handing over the flyers.

More companies are using location services to offer added value to their customers, for instance Here is another startup spotted at SXSW 2017, that uses a bunch of traffic data to predict the best routes for transport companies, such as taxis, cars or trucks, or even to find probable parking spots free at certains times in various streets.

In Europe we can see a few successful startups that are nailing it right now: Witrac uses its technology to track specific vehicles in the Ford Almussafes car park. Finding an automobile in record time seems simple in a car park, but given that they have parked thousands of cars in the same area, it is very difficult to find an specific one. For instance, Fiat announced a few years ago that they use drones with camera to fly over the cars parked and search for specific ones in their fabric in Turin. However, Ford posed new problems as it is a closed space.

The Witrac founders Pons and Ferrer, devised a set of sensors and connected them to a mobile geolocation system. Without cables it is fast and effective. Their business is basically industrial connectivity that can be transferred to other fields in which they are working, such as, finding defibrillators in a hospital. Witrac has only 8 employees and are developing a real time system that is solving the problems of big players.

Where to place your new business or to buy a real state is another successful pattern we are seeing recently in startup fields like Measurence, a company that analyses data from different location systems to draw a landscape of movement in a city and know exactly how many people walk daily in an specific area. Their founders wanted to use technology to analyze urban traffic and sell the data to companies that are going to place a new sucursal or office in a new city. Specifically analytics in – store to track the behaviour of consumers is the business of the successful startup Proximus.

Location for people

We can disguise many different uses of location systems, whether they are business driven or connect directly with the consumer. We believe that nobody wants to be located at all times, or by everybody.

This is why we came up with Wave Application. Today, with 8 million downloads, it keeps on making it easy and fun to find your friends by sharing your live location on a map only with the people you choose. We have already facilitated 60 millions of meetings and there have been more than 260 millions of Wave sessions around the world. It’s 2017. If we are constantly moving, why should meeting up be so complicated?

Workput fitness app

Did you hear about this one? Top 5 Fitness apps

Some of us we have not signed up for the gym, or even worse: we did sign up but we hardly know the way there 😀 Therefore, we can suggest other ways to exercise to get in shape this year. Among countless apps on the market we chose a list of the most interesting and coolest, so that the procrastinators no longer have an excuse. Here are the most innovative apps for fitness with virtual reality, artificial intelligence and social networks:

Zombies, Run!

For those who hate sports because it makes them feel bored, the solution comes hand in hand with Virtual Reality. There are several apps that are taking advantage of the ‘gamification’ to introduces it into the daily routine of people and give vent to the tremendous innovative effort suggested by this format. Would you be able to exercise if a zombie panda kept chasing you?

Zombies, Run! uses scenarios created specifically for virtual reality goggles with the intention of getting yourself involved in an interesting history through your headphones. Once you start running and listening to the story, you can see yourself climbing fences and running to to survive. It may sound slightly spooky, but this app has already three million downloads worldwide. With each update, the number of scenarios increase so you never get bored.

Virzoom

Following with the Virtual Reality to exercise, another app that we found interesting is Virzoom. The app takes advantage of a real machines such as a bike, to immerse yourself in a story and make you protagonist of it realistically. It presents a wide range of situations such as a city defended from the dinosaurs. For the next version they will release a parkour scenario to let you jump on the rooftops of your city. Impressive.

Vi

If you are one of those who enjoy exercising but don’t know how to do it correctly, it would be best to hire a personal trainer at least in the beginning. Through Artificial Intelligence, the creators of VI have developed an app that controls the data of your exercises to guide you step by step, let you rest when you need to and create a personalized exercise plan for you. Vi is a personal trainer who lives right there in your harman Kardon headphones, that come in a bundle with the app.

Moov

Another personal trainer who uses artificial intelligence is Moov, but with the main difference that it uses a wearable device to control more exercise data, such as beats, steps you are giving or rhythm. Once you collect data from your smartwatch of your daily performance, you can adjust the intensity levels of the application to suit your needs. We really liked how complete the app is:  running, swimming, cycling, boxing, and timed workouts. Each has the option of creating an exercise table and saving your evolution.

Daily Mile

Fitness app daily mile
Daily Mile

Daily Mile is an application and social network with exercise tables for all levels that you can easily do at home. It has tips, daily exercise plans and tips that you can use and share with your friends. The best part, however, is the social network that allows you to share your workout routine with your friends and followers. You can bring out your competitive side and let others know the effort you are making, and even share it directly on Twitter post…to show off or to get motivated 😉

Last but not least, if you are not planning to do sports “solo” – open a wave and meet up with your friends to go running, mountain biking, surfing… – or to have that one beer after getting all fit.

Video 4K, long battery life (finally) and the comeback of the legendary Nokia 3310: the best picks right from the MWC17

Mobile World Congress has started in Barcelona stronger than ever, with more than 2000 exhibitors and 100.000 expected attendees. The light presentation of Samsung, that has introduced only two new tablets and a new version of Oculus glasses, makes it easy for the rest ;).

There are, for example, Sony Xperia Touch, a projector that allows any surface to be converted into a touchpad, unbreakable phones and the Nestle coffee maker connected to the Internet, to explore. With so many surprises around us, the World Mobile Congress has re-established itself as the most important event in the world of mobile technology, so without further delay, let’s go to the most important: which mobile phones you will carry this year in your pocket.

The beast: Sony XZ Premium

The manufacturer of sensors and lenses Sony introduced the smartphone with the highest resolution in the world: its Sony Xperia XZ Premium records video on 4K with his 19 MP camera and has a full color screen HDR 4K that will turn any of your videos into an authentic piece of art. The camera has a predictive option to take pictures automatically when it detects movement around. To process quickly such quality, it carries the most powerful processor of the moment, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, with 4GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes in black and has 5.5, inches screen, a powerful battery life and has the fastest connection to Internet in the market.

Middle class smartphones

Lenovo is attracting a big part of the cake with two new smartphones Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5, a 5.2 and a 5 inches smartphones that come with 13MP camera, high processor and a great battery life that allows you to have a 6 hours working phone after just 15 minutes of charging.

Nokia is back! The Finnish manufacturer wants to conquer us again after the famous fiasco we all know a little too well. The three new smartphones are built by its subsidiary HMD, also Finnish, and carry the latest version of Android, displayed natively on the phones, something that shows that both companies are working side by side.

Nokia 6 is a 5.5. inches smartphone with 18MP camera and a strong processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 430. On the other hand, Nokia 5 and Nokia 4 come in a 5 inches shape with 8 MP camera and a lighter processor.

The legendary Nokia 3310 is back

Nokia brings as a gift for fans the return of the mythical 3310, the best-selling phone in history with 120 millions of terminals worldwide. The new version comes with colourful tactile screen, a simple menu to call and receive calls and of course: the snake game. Sadly, it only works with 2G frequency, specifically uses 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequency, an old network that is still prevalent in most of Europe and Asia but does not work in the US, Canada, South America and Central America.
